Swizz Beatz Talks Working on Dr. Dre’s Detox Album, Collaborating With DMX

Swizz Beatz is constantly working. But whether it’s newer ventures like being a pitchman for Reebok or dabbling into art, Swizzy hasn’t forgot about the music. During a recent interview, Swizz Beatz recently revealed that he shared some studio time with Dr. Dre for the legendary producer’s notoriously-anticipated album, Detox, and is also working on bringing DMX back into the fold.
As previous accounts from rappers and producers have already indicated, Swizzy says that Dre is sitting on a plethora of hot records.
“I done heard 10 Detox worth of smashes,” Swizz told Bootleg Kev about getting in the studio and working with Dre about two to two and a half months ago. “Just put yourself in Dre’s shoes. When you a perfectionist and when you set the bar so high and when people are expecting so much of you and from you, you don’t want to feel that at any type of way and you don’t want the pressure of that, especially when you already won the title.

“Even with Beats by Dre success and all that, he still loves music,” he added. “He’s one of the most consistent, even if he hasn’t put out records every year.”
Swizz also revealed his big plans for DMX, who recently dropped the The Weigh In mixtape to what fans’ appetites, before unleashing his album.
“I’ve heard a lot of records,” Swizzy told Bootleg Kev about X’s upcoming project. “I’ve actually worked on a couple of records as well. As far as where an album’s at now, because a lot of new material happens, I don’t know where it’s at right now.

Kanye West signs - Teyana Taylor

Teyana Taylor has worked closely with Kanye West in the past few years, but this month Ye confirmed her addition to the G.O.O.D. Music roster. The Harlem native dropped a new mixtape The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor in March (and stays busy with acting roles) but says that the deal begins a new chapter in her music career.
When MTV News caught up with Taylor after she'd been signed to Kanye's imprint, via Def Jam, she said the deal was finalized in April. "I had been actually working with the whole G.O.O.D. Music family for quite a while," she explained. "Around the time we did the 'Dark Fantasy' song, I was still in my contract with Star Trak/Interscope Records, and I asked for release because I wanted to find myself as an artist. I had options to go to different labels, but I felt like G.O.O.D. Music was where I wanted to be, where I fit in.
"This is the second go 'round for me, and hopefully, the second time's the charm," the 21-year-old continued. "I signed to Star Trak with Pharrell when I was 15, and now I'm at a new chapter in my life where I'm signed to G.O.O.D. Music, and I'm blessed and happy to be part of the team."
The rapper, singer, writer and actress said the new deal will definitely improve her worth ethic. "Being signed to G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam has opened more doors now that I finally have a team behind me that can push me to work harder," she said.
Taylor has already recorded her tracks for the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album, which she said was not too different from her experience working on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. "Recording 'Dark Fantasy' and recording the G.O.O.D. Music album were both crazy," she shared. "When we did 'Dark Fantasy,' the album had to be turned in in three hours, so that was a song that we made happen so last minute, which happened to be the first song on the album, so that was very exciting."

"The same amount of work, same amount of pressure, same amount of heart, intensity, passion [went into recording the G.O.O.D. Music LP]. It was a great experience to be able to work with someone like Kanye and with Pusha T, Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Common and the whole G.O.O.D. family. When it's time to do something, we all come together, we make it work, everyone's focused."
Taylor recorded with West in both Los Angeles and New York, laughing off rumors that the crew ticked off the Royal Family while recording in London.
Right now, Taylor is simply enjoying her new family circle. "I am the princess of G.O.O.D. Music, the first lady of G.O.O.D. Music, the baby of G.O.O.D. Music," she said, laughing. "I'm kinda the spoiled brat right now. I could get whatever I want."

Brooklyn Nets Logo

The Brooklyn Nets are open for business. The team's formal attire will be black and white.
The Nets began settling into their new neighborhood Monday, unveiling new colors and logos at a sporting goods store on Flatbush Avenue, across the street from its soon-to-be-completed home arena, the $1 billion Barclays Center.
"Hello Brooklyn,"' center Brook Lopez said. "I've been waiting a long time to say that. It's very exciting."
Lopez was joined by coach Avery Johnson, General Manager Billy King, Bruce Ratner, the real estate developer and minority owner who was the catalyst behind the team's relocation, and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
"Today is a great day for Brooklyn It's been one decade, 10 years, since I started discussing this with Marty. It's taken 10 years, but they are officially the Brooklyn Nets," said Ratner, who faced both legal and political resistance to the building of the arena and the relocation of the team he bought in 2004. "Ladies and gentleman, the curse of O'Malley is officially over today."
The O'Malley family controlled the Dodgers from 1950-98 and moved the team from Brooklyn to Los Angeles after the 1957 season.
The Nets, who have been playing in New Jersey since 1977, are leaving their red, white and blue look behind as they move across the Hudson River. The Nets will be the only team in the NBA with black and white as its only primary colors.
Adam Silver, NBA deputy commissioner, said the league has been trying to steer teams toward emphasizing their traditional primary colors instead of black, which many teams use for an alternative jersey, to make them more easily identifiable on television. But it had no problem with the choice of black and white for the Nets.
"We agreed with the Nets that this color scheme made sense for this market," Silver said.
The team's shield logo has Nets spelled out above a basketball with a block B on it. Below the shield, Brooklyn is printed. The Nets say the logo and color scheme were designed by minority owner Jay-Z and inspired by the New York City Transit Authority subway signs from 1957.
The Nets are hoping the move to Brooklyn will also bring a change of fortune for a franchise that has mostly toiled in the shadow of the New York Knicks. The Nets have never won an NBA title, though they went to the finals twice with Jason Kidd in 2002 and '03, and have not made the playoffs since 2007.
Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov bought the Nets in 2009, knowing that a move to Brooklyn was coming.
The team moved out of its longtime home arena at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J., after losing 70 games in the 2009-10 season. The team has spent the past two years playing at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
"Hopefully, around this time next year you guys will be at our press conference for the 2013 playoffs," Johnson said. The Nets finished 22-44 this season.
Nets have been touting the move to Brooklyn as a way to lure big-time free agents to the team. That didn't work out, as LeBron JamesCarmelo Anthony and others passed on the team's offers.
"We've been talking about it, but now the reality is we are the Brooklyn Nets," King said. "The arena is on schedule. It's going to be one of the best arenas in the league."
King traded for All-Star point guard Deron Williams during last season, hoping he would sign an extension. Instead, Williams will become a free agent July 1.

Andre 3000 to play Jimi Hendrix

After years of production problems and battles over the rights to use Jimi Hendrix's music in the movie. Things have finally been settled and Andre 3000 will finally get to be Jimi Hendrix in the new Hollywood movie. The movie is set to begin filming next month in Ireland and will last six weeks total.
IFTN understands that 'All Is By My Side' will document Hendrix's period in England over 1966 and 1967 as he formulated his debut album and some of the greatest guitar music ever created. The feature film will be written and directed by John Ridley, who is best known as the writer of 'Three Kings' and 'U-Turn'. The project is currently in pre-production in Wicklow, with principal photography set to begin in three weeks time in Dublin and Wicklow. The shoot will last six weeks in total. (IFTN)

2 Chainz Signs with G.O.O.D Music

  • After Kanye West hinted that 2 Chainz is now officially part of G.O.O.D. Music last night on Twitter, the rapper also known as Tity Boi has spoken on West’s tweet. During an interview with Bootleg Kev, the Def Jam signee didn’t deny that he’s part of Kanye’s crew, but instead focused on the aspect of the tweet that he now charges $100,000 per guest feature.
  • “He just said I’m good, like I’m ill. But we was talking and I think I was jeopardizing my brand sometimes by doing the homeboy special. So I think he felt like we should just put that out there that we ain’t doing no more of that,” he said. “I woulda done almost anything a couple months ago, and it was all about really reaching out because I still will, I’m still grounded, but it made sense for me to slow down a little bit being that I got an album coming out August 14th. I’m still working on that. … I’m just trying to focus on 2 Chainz a little more.”

2 Chainz’s Def Jam debut, Based on a T.R.U. Story, arrives on August 14th.

Lil Boosie - Found Not Guilty

After a week of testimony and deliberation in a murder trial stemming from a 2009 case, jurors in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, found rapper Lil Boosie (born Torrence Hatch) not guilty of a first-degree murder charge on Friday (May 11). The rapper was facing life in prison if convicted.
Boosie was able to beat seemingly insurmountable odds in a murder trial in which he was accused of ordering primary witness Michael "Marlo Mike" Louding to murder Terry Boyd. The 35-year-old was shot to death in his home in Baton Rouge in October 2009.

On the third day of testimony in the Boosie trial, 19-year-old Louding took the stand and backtracked on his previous confession of being hired to kill Boyd. He claimed instead that he had never confessed to law enforcement about the murder, adding that he was with Hatch and getaway driver Adrienne Pitman at the rapper's house on the night of the shooting.
The prosecution came under fire for using Boosie's violent lyrics to incriminate him in the case, even pointing to Louding's tattoo of an AK-47, with the script "Yo Boosie Who's Next?" as proof that the two had conspired. Meanwhile, the defense aimed to paint a picture of Boosie as an artist who let too many strangers into his inner circle without knowing their true intentions.
On Wednesday morning, an IT specialist took the stand to testify about the contents of the Baton Rouge rapper's computer. The expert pinpointed a photo of a tattoo parlor, which was related to the investigation, but no details were given on how his testimony might have affected the case. Throughout the trial, several officers were questioned, including one who revealed that Boosie was not considered a suspect until his name was brought up during Louding's confession.
While prosecutors argued that Louding's admissions and cell phone records were proof that he committed the crime, Boosie's defense attorneys countered that the confession was a lie, prompted by hours of interrogation.

'BEASTIE BOYS' MCA Dead at 47

In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node (below). He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.

So far, it's not clear if the death is related to the rapper's battle with cancer.
Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.

MCA co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, and Ad Rock ... and went on to churn out some of the most iconic albums in hip-hop ... including License to Ill, Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication.

The group has won multiple Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.

The Beastie Boys haven't performed live since summer 2009 -- and during one of their last ever performances at Bonnaroo that June, MCA appeared noticeably less energetic than his group mates.

Ace Hood Joins Young Money/Cash Money Roster

The Young Money/Cash Money empire has a new acquisition.

This time, it’s DJ Khaled protege, Ace Hood, who joins the YMCMB team. According to Cash Money CEO, the decision comes about partly because Khaled’s We The Best label imprint now falls under the YMCMB umbrella. Young Money CEO, Birdman, explained the situation to MTV, and expressed his enthusiasm for the addition of the Florida-born, Ace Hood.

"I'd like to let the world know that Khaled's brand, which is We the Best, is officially signed to YMCMB and the first act coming out that umbrella ... will be Ace Hood," Birdman explained.

"I always wanted to have a chance to work with Ace Hood. We wanted to do it right, set it up right. I think Ace Hood is a superstar. I love his work ethic, I think he's a very talented young man and he gonna be a big superstar in this business and I wanted to be the one to help him become that. It was important to me."

This isn’t the only news on the growth and strengthening of YMCMB. Recently, Birdman revealed that he had plans to create a film, featuring artists from the label.

"We start shooting that in the fall," Birdman told XXL. "That's the whole team, that's like a 2012 Balla Blocking. The Rich Gang movie is about the team. Everybody is going to be the star of it, but [Lil] Wayne will be the center of it. It's about the team, everybody that's on the label. ... I would like them [to] just be themselves. I'm not gonna tell no n*gga to go to acting school. Just be yourself. We're excited as a brand about it. Tyga, everybody is like, 'Stunna, let's do a movie.' We got a few of them lined up and we gonna shoot them."
